-- Actions and Messages to US Senators
This page will start a quick and easy process that will allow you to notify
a number of key US Senators who could block any proposed federal legislation
that will further erode our basic civil liberties. In some cases it may require
them to filibuster, which only the US Senate rules allow (not the House of Representatives.)
To skip the below (why, who
and what explanation) and email six key senators click here.
By clicking below it allows you to enter a form that will send a message to
the listed Senators (the message is below the Senator's name). The form also
enters your name in a petition which allows a future presentation to the Senator
or a staff person the Senator has assigned to these issues.
We have picked these Senators for all or one of the following reasons:
1) They are up for re-election in 2004 and therefore more responsive to blocks
of potential voters and/or donors.
2) The have shown some tendency in the past to oppose Bush on these issues.
3) They are in powerful Senate committees that hold hearings on these issues.
Pass on this website's link to your friends, especially the ones that live in the listed Senator's states.
Also contained within the letters is the implication your vote and/or support relates to their actions or inactions on civil liberty issues.
Below are the Senators, comments
and the messages that will be sent by clicking here - all of the letters/emails
will be sent at one time.
You will also have the option to add a comment.
For further information on and how federal elected
official's staff handle their email/mail click here - you will see why being
brief plus the subject line are important.
In all cases, if you decide to call instead of use our email form,
call Toll Free: 1-800-839-5276 and say "please connect me with Senator
(you supply the name) office".
Senator Feingold, Russell - (D - WI)

E-mail: russell_feingold@feingold.senate.gov
Up for reelection in 2004
The ONLY Senator to vote against the Patriot I Act - he deserves our support.
Campaign website: http://www.russfeingold.org/
Letter that will be sent (and petition which will include your name).
Dear Senator Feingold:
RE: Stopping the further erosion of American's Freedoms by the Bush Administration.
Thank you for voting against the misnamed Patriot I Act. History has already
proved you correct; Bush has repeatedly abused the intent of enacted legislation
to persecute innocent Americans and harass his critics.
Please do whatever you can to stop future legislation that diminishes American's civil liberties, including using your right to filibuster if necessary.
I have asked the generator of this letter and petition to inform me of your future actions on this matter.
Thank you,
(Your name will appear hear)
Boxer, Barbara - (D - CA)

Up for reelection in 2004.
Normally opposes Bush on many issues, but could be better on civil liberties.
Boxer will likely have a difficult election, so several actions could be beneficial
(sending letter below, calling to her campaign office and saying your support
is contingent on future efforts to preserve civil liberties)
Dear Senator Boxer:

Thank you,
